Dear Maverick Family,

As we approach the holiday break, I wanted to update you on our annual education appeal.  A few months ago, we wrote an article in the eNews asking for your support and informing you that we have received more teacher requests for funding than ever before.

“Our goal was double what we were able to raise two years ago.”

Because of those requests, we set our funding goal very high: $100,000.  This is money we wanted to use to grant many of these teachers requests and to add an important layer of academic enrichment on top of the core education our District provides.

But, I want to repeat, that was a very lofty goal for us.  That goal was double what we were able to raise just two school years ago and 25% more than last year.  So, we knew it would be difficult.

I cannot tell you how excited I am to share with you the news that we surpassed that goal!  As of today, we have raised a little over $100,000!!!  This would have never been possible without the support of hundreds of families who gave to our annual appeal (more than ever), dozens of volunteers who have put in countless hours of hard work, and our five generous families who stepped forward to help us launch our $50K in 50 Days drive to get us over the top and double the donations during that campaign.  Thank you all so incredibly much!

“Whether it is $5 or $5,000, this was something we wanted the community to achieve together.”

We understand that not every family is in a position to give as much as they would like.  That is why we always stress that any support from you is important.  Whether it is $5 or $5,000, this was something we wanted the community to achieve together.  And we came together in a huge way!

Because of your generosity, we have already been able to grant out a little over $65,000 back to the school.

As the rest of these donations are processed and our Grants committee and Board meets after the holidays, we fully expect to be able to grant out another round of funding in the new year.  This is so incredibly important and exciting for our school.

Here are just a few examples of what we have already been able to accomplish with your support:

► Approx. $12,000 to our Science Dept. for Lab Equipment, supplies, etc.

► Almost $5,000 to our Math Dept. for Calculators, supplies, and to support our Calculus Camp.

► $6,000 to our Engineering Dept to support our Robotics program.

► $10,000 to our Arts Dept. for important supplies and equipment for our various classes.

► $2,000 to our Avid Program

► $5,000 to our Academic Enrichment program

And there are many more programs and teachers your money has gone to support.

Again, thank you to all of you who participated and donated.  Thank you to all of you who have given so many hours of your time.  Thank you to every person that bought a ticket to our Taste of La Costa event, purchased something from our online auction, bought a Maverick T-shirt or hat at Back to School night (and any other time).  And thank you to our five incredibly generous families (the Nicholas, Roberts, Leddy, Geier, and anonymous families) for setting the bar so high and donating $5,000 each to match your donations and help us reach our goal.

We did this together and our students will reap the benefits.

As the high school’s Foundation, we will be hard at work after the break organizing activities, granting money, raising outside funds, supporting our staff, administering our athletic donations, and all of the other things we work so hard to do.

But, for now…during this break, we celebrate.  With you.  Because of you.  For you.

Thank you.
Wishing you and your family the best of holidays,
